Job Description:
Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Aircraft Panel Cover Technician to join our corporate aircraft interior team. The successful candidate will specialize in the layout, covering, and installation of soft goods on sidewalls, dado panels, PSU panels, window panels, bulkheads, and doors. Youll be responsible for achieving flawless material fit, seam alignment, and pattern match across large cabin surfaces while meeting FAA flammability standards and OEM finish requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Panel Covering & Assembly

  • Wrap, bond, and finish composite and aluminum interior panels with leather, ultra-leather, vinyl, fabric, and acoustic materials per engineering drawings
  • Perform precise layout and pattern matching across multiple adjoining panels to maintain grain direction, seam continuity, and visual flow through the cabin
  • Fabricate and install welting, reveal strips, accent inserts, and feature stitching on sidewalls, bulkheads, and PSU panels

Material Prep & Substrate Work

  • Inspect and prep panel substrates: clean, scuff, fill, and prime surfaces to ensure proper adhesion and finish quality
  • Cut and fit foam, scrim, sound-dampening layers, and fire-block materials to panels prior to cover installation
  • Layout patterns for optimal material yield; inspect hides/fabrics for defects, shade variation, and stretch direction before cutting

Removal & Installation

  • Remove and reinstall covered panels in aircraft, ensuring alignment to reveals, monuments, and window lines without gaps or distortion
  • Protect adjacent wood veneer, plating, and painted surfaces during R&R; verify proper fastener engagement and torque
  • Set PSU panels, gaspers, lights, and switches through pre-cut openings with clean, finished edges

Quality & Compliance

  • Inspect all covered panels for wrinkles, glue bleed, delamination, seam alignment, and cosmetic defects prior to install
  • Ensure all materials, adhesives, and constructions comply with FAR 25.853 FAA flammability and traceability requirements
  • Complete work orders, material burn tags, and conformity paperwork accurately and on time

Communication

  • Coordinate with engineering, cabinet shop, and sewing teams on panel fit issues, pattern changes, and interface details
  • Communicate progress, discrepancies, and ETAs to team leads; support customer walk-throughs for pattern/layout approvals
Requirements

Experience

  • 3+ years hands-on experience covering aircraft interior panels in corporate or general aviation required

Technical Skills

  • Expert ability to read engineering drawings, panel maps, work instructions, and mylar patterns
  • Proficient with contact adhesives, spray equipment, heat guns, stretch techniques, and hand tools for panel wrapping
  • Strong knowledge of substrate prep, adhesive open times, and prevention of telegraphing, bridging, and delamination
  • Familiarity with FAA burn requirements, approved adhesives/materials, and acoustic/thermal panel constructions
  • Skilled in pattern matching across large surfaces and maintaining straight sight lines in the cabin

Core Competencies

  • Exceptional eye for detail, symmetry, and surface finish &8212; panels are the largest visual surface in the cabin
  • Strong spatial reasoning to handle compound curves, returns, and cutouts
  • Ability to work clean and protect Class A surfaces throughout the process
  • Self-starter who can meet deadlines on large shipsets with minimal rework
Performance Expectations
  • Quality Workmanship: Seamless visual flow, zero wrinkles/bridges, and panels that install first time with correct gaps/reveals
  • Efficiency: Meet TAKT times for panel shipsets; minimize material waste and adhesive rework
  • Safety: Follow PPE and ventilation requirements for adhesives, solvents, and dust from panel prep
  • Customer Service: Deliver a cabin environment where every seam and material transition looks intentional and premium
Work Environment
  • Schedule: Flexible schedule required; evenings/weekends during major completions or AOG support
  • Physical Demands: Lift 50 lbs, handle 8-12 ft panels, bend/kneel in cabins, and perform detailed handwork overhead and at angles
  • Travel: May travel with aircraft for on-site panel installations, removals, or field repairs
